One family’s journey to settle in Elmore County

Three generations of Elmore County Johnsons in 1920.

This is a story of how one Johnson family migrated from Great Britain, perhaps via Ireland, to America and ended up in Elmore County, Alabama.

Johnson is the second most common surname in the United States and one of the more numerous in the English-speaking world. Johnson, a surname of English, Irish and Scottish origin, is a patronym of the given name John meaning, “son of John.”
