The state of Alabama has experienced a surge in the number of teachers receiving national board certifications in recent years. Figures released recently by the state department of education indicate that this is a continuing trend, with an increase in the total number of new teachers certified increasing from 168 to 226, more than 34 percent.

Alabama ranks 13th among all states for total number of national board certified teachers and 12th for largest number of newly certified teachers in 2007.
