If you want to understand the current debate over immigration policy, do what we did last week. Take your children (in our case, two grandchildren) to the playground for a few hours and look around.

Most of the caregivers we observed spoke a language other than English (primarily Spanish, but also Russian, and in one case, Icelandic). If you listened to the workers in many restaurant kitchens, packing sheds or construction sites, chances are the pattern would be the same – employees speaking other languages than English.
