While both Tallapoosa and Coosa Counties are dotted with several municipalities, only two in the area can actually be called cities, according to the Alabama League of Municipalities.

According to Tracy Roberts, assistant general counsel for ALM, a municipality must have a population greater than 2,000 to be considered a city, while any incorporated community with less than that is considered a town.
