According to an old fraternity brother of mine, the Florida Panhandle’s “Forgotten Coast” was so named for a different reason than one might expect.

The obvious perception about the moniker is, of course, hype regarding real estate sales—the area runs from roughly Mexico Beach to Panacea, and is relatively undeveloped compared to many other portions of the Sunshine State coastline. Other communities on the Forgotten Coast include Port St. Joe, Apalachicola, and Carrabelle.
