Birmingham woman arrested for smuggling drugs, phones into state prison

A juvenile and a 32-year-old woman were detained just outside of the Elmore Correctional Facility. They are accused of trying to throw illegal drugs and contraband such as phones and knives over the fence of the state prison.

According to court documents, at almost midnight on Oct. 12, Alabama Department of Corrections personnel noticed a subject dressed in all black throwing packages over the fence at Elmore Correctional Facility. An ADOC K-9 team located and detained two individuals. Four packages were found on the juvenile when they were caught. Three other packages had already been thrown across the fence.
