With the school year having started for students in the tri-county area, most everyone is facing the start of a new chapter. From kids starting first grade to teenagers starting their senior year to parents sending their 18-year-olds off to college and away from home for the first time ever, change is happening every day in our lives.

Change is scary for everyone, no matter how young or old you are. It’s completely normal to feel the contrasting emotions, excitement and trepidation, as you close one chapter of your life and begin a new one. Our nature tells us there is safety in routines and predictability, so the shifting of patterns, the changing of scenery is something that will likely always come with an influx of emotions. From a small change like having a new teacher at school or a new boss at work, or a bigger change like learning how to navigate a new school building or adjusting to a quieter home as your child strikes out on their own, change is unfamiliar and daunting. Some days you might ask yourself how you will ever get used to the change.
