Wetumpka has had a tennis program for many years now, but it has flown mostly under the radar. As one of the so-called “non-revenue” sports — essentially, anything other than men’s basketball, football and baseball — the tennis team and its athletes tend to be overlooked by the greater community as more of a hobby than a serious sport. Come next season, that will no longer be the case.

Two Wetumpka tennis players were honored with selections to the AHSAA’s North-South All Stars. Rising seniors Mary Ellis Baker and Mark Kasen Evans were each chosen to represent the Indians as one of the 12 best tennis players from the south of the state.
