A handful of anglers from four Elmore County high schools attended the Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association’s Lake Pickwick Classic in Florence last Friday and Saturday. Pickwick is located in northwest Alabama on the Tennessee River, running 50 miles from the Pickwick Landing Dam in Tennessee to Wilson Dam in Muscle Shoals. Anglers launched from McFarland Park in Florence on Friday. Pickwick is best known for its smallmouth bass fishing, but is also home to largemouth bass and spotted bass.

Holtville fielded a group of 10 anglers, enough for five boats. Bulldog anglers Jake Thomas and Micah Jones finished above the rest of the Elmore County anglers, finishing fifth with a six-fish performance of 22.22 pounds.
