This season, the Elmore County Panthers have plans to compete at a high level on the baseball diamond, capitalizing on the experience they’ve returned from last season’s area title win and second-round playoff run. The Panthers (2-4) have had a tough schedule thus far, facing Montgomery Catholic in a double-header in their home opener, then Opelika with Bibb County and Homewood following at a tournament in Troy.

On Friday night, Elmore County hosted Prattville Christian Academy, ranked No. 5 in Class 3A according to PrepBaseball Alabama. The game was a pitcher’s duel through the first four innings, as ECHS’ starter Shelton Darnell battled with PCA’s Blake Bowman. Darnell surrendered just two hits, striking out seven batters and walking just one.
