Holtville quarterback Jacob Burgess passes over the line of scrimmage in a 34-31 win over Sylacauga.

Despite the odds stacked against them, the Holtville Bulldogs pushed through a slew of penalties during their first Class 5A Region 2 football game for a hard-fought victory against the Sylacauga Aggies, 34-31. Senior defensive back Tyler Hackett and junior running back Daishaun Zeigler were tied with two touchdowns apiece at the end of the game. Zeigler picked up 138 yards out of the team’s total of 296 yards on the night.

Sylacauga (2-1, 0-1) got first blood with a 38-yard touchdown, but the Bulldogs (2-1, 1-0) struck right back with a 95-yard touchdown by Jayshaun Marshall on the Aggies kickoff. They missed the extra point, but they were in the game and they were determined to stay in it.
