The Elmore County Commission accepted a nearly $70 million jail next door to the current Elmore County Jail.

The project will double the capacity of the current jail to 480. The current jail opened in 1995 with a designed maximum capacity of about 240 inmates. It currently houses more than 300 inmates daily. Funding for the new jail comes from current funding mechanisms available to the commission.
