Halmar Gamez / Special to TPI Water is applied to a fire on Goat Island on Lake Martin Sunday evening. According to Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin, the fire is under control.

Volunteer firefighters have been battling two fires near each other in northeastern Elmore County.

“At 4:48 p.m. Elmore County E911 dispatchers received a call about a fire on Goat Island,” Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin said. “Firefighters with Red Hill Volunteer Fire Department and Real Island Volunteer Fire Department responded.”
