A decision about who will be the new mayor of Eclectic is in the hands of the 19th Judicial Circuit.
Stephanie Stepney has challenged the residency of Guy Sanders who won the mayor’s race on Aug. 26 with 218 votes to Stepney’s 78. The election was certified by the Eclectic Town Council on Sept. 2. Stepney signed the resolution certifying the election results as the Eclectic Town Council Ward 2 representative. Court filings show Stepney is arguing Sanders did not meet the 90-day residency rule before a person can seek the office of mayor or council.
