AYSO soccer enters its 12th year in Elmore County

More than 250 children participate annually in the Elmore County AYSO soccer program.

In Alabama, football is king. But futbol has been making its presence known in our state for more than 20 years since Birmingham hosted soccer matches at Legion Field for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia.

The fascination has been growing locally, too, with the American Youth Soccer Organization’s program in Elmore County entering its 12th year of existence this Fall. The program – with players from the ages of 3-18 – hosts from 250 to 300 children each year in Elmore County.
