Wetumpka’s flag football team opened region play with a 29-20 victory over Park Crossing at home, using a strong rushing attack and a fast start to build an early lead before holding off a second-half comeback from the Thunderbirds.

“I just think it means a lot for all of us,” Wetumpka coach Candice Lacy said. “First region game. We got it up, yeah. So we (are) excited.”
