Ana Sofia Meyer / TPI Wetumpka guard Aaliyah Humphrey attempts to drive baseline as SEHS' Kuraji Crosby cuts her off with contact. Humphrey had 14 points in the loss to rivals Stanhope Elmore.

After taking home their first area championship in three years, Wetumpka’s girls basketball team began this season with plans to repeat as area champions, finishing the season with a championship push. Those plans are still alive and well, although they definitely took a hit.

In spite of their best efforts, Wetumpka fell to Stanhope Elmore in the first game of area play, 81-60.
