File / TPI Wetumpka boys basketball has eyed a deep playoff run since 2021, now they have the pieces and potential to make it happen under coach Steven Thomas.

This basketball season, Wetumpka is shooting for the state championship. Last season, the boys came close. Despite finishing third in Class 6A Area 4 with a 1-3 record, the Indians won out the tournament, beating rival Stanhope Elmore then ousting Percy Julian, 50-49, to clinch the area title. The win gave Wetumpka their first chance to compete at regionals since 2010.

Indians coach Steven Thomas is entering his fourth season, making this year’s seniors the freshmen he entered the program with.
