Every week of the high school sports season, there will be a poll to honor the Tallapoosa County area’s top athlete with the Alex City Outlook Fans’ Choice Player of the Week.
It was already known Horseshoe Bend was going into the season young — and now it is even more evident.
Benjamin Russell has shown its ability to win a game in so many different ways — this time it was the defense's turn.
Kenderious ‘Poochie’ Byrd did not make his way to the quarterback just once, not twice, nor even three times — he did it on four separate occasions last Friday.
Unfortunately, sometimes it’s not your day — and it certainly was not Central Coosa’s on Thursday night.
At just about the halfway mark for most football teams in the state of Alabama, it’s time to see who’s in and who’s out at this point in the season across the coverage area. Â
It has not been pretty for the Horseshoe Bend Generals through the first six weeks of the season.
If they win, they’re in — most likely.
Time to get back into region play for the Wildcats.
If Central Coosa can clean up its errors, it can surely be a competitive volleyball team going forward.
It certainly wasn’t pretty to start, but good teams always find a way out.Â

Considering how his night began, Benjamin Russell’s Alijah Johnson could have easily given up then and there against then No. 6-ranked Spain Park. But that’s simply not in his DNA.
Horseshoe Bend School continued to be frustrated on the football field as the Generals were felled by the visiting White Plains Wildcats 40-7 on Homecoming.
Central Coosa was on a mission. It wanted to do something it hadn’t done since 2015 — win three games in a row.
The trek to Troy may be long, but the road to the state championship is even longer — and that’s what Benjamin Russell is aiming for.

It has been a rough start to the season for Horseshoe Bend, but there is still plenty of football left to be played.
Something special is brewing for the Central Coosa football team, and the Cougars show no signs of slowing down.
There is nothing more rewarding to an athlete than the appreciation of those around them. And that’s something parents at Benjamin Russell High School are doing with their tailgates before each of the Wildcats' football games.
It is not every day you see an all-star cross country runner make the transition from tying up his shoes for a race to buckling up a helmet. However, that’s the case for Horseshoe Bend senior Loughton Spates.
