The Stanhope Elmore Mustangs, ranked No. 6 by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in the final poll of the season, defeated rival Wetumpka in the AHSAA Class 6A Area 5 tournament championship, 71-54. 

Even with a young team wrestling on the mats this season, Wetumpka’s boys and girls wrestlers fought through injuries, nerves and all kinds of adversity at AHSAA’s Class 6A-7A South Sectionals last week. Five wrestlers, one girl and four boys, came out the other side as state qualifiers.
